Our ethos, our approach, and how we train and support our team to deliver complex care you can trust.
At Millie's, every child and young person is an individual. Their experiences may be part of their story, but they should never define who they are or what they can achieve.
Our approach starts with getting to know the person behind the referral: their personality, their strengths, what matters to them and what they need from the people around them. We understand that behaviour is often a form of communication, and we look beyond what we see to understand what a young person may be trying to tell us.
We believe good support starts with feeling safe and having people around you who you can trust. That is why we place so much importance on consistency, genuine relationships and creating an environment where young people feel secure, understood and able to be themselves. Our support should fit around the child, not expect the child to fit around us.
We want young people to have a genuine voice in their support and in the decisions that affect their lives. We encourage choice, independence and new experiences, while providing the stability and support each young person needs to progress at their own pace. Whatever their starting point, we are ambitious for the young people we support, helping them build confidence, recognise their own strengths and look towards their future with a sense of possibility.
No two people are the same, and we don't believe their support should be either. Our approach begins with the individual. We work alongside the people we support, their families and the professionals involved in their care to understand their needs, preferences, routines, goals and what a good life looks like to them.
Support is planned around the individual and reviewed as their needs develop or change. Wherever possible, we encourage choice, independence and involvement in everyday decisions, balancing positive risk-taking with appropriate safeguards. Our goal is simple: to provide the right support, in the right way, for each individual.
At Millie's, we believe great support starts with well-trained, confident people. All of our care and support staff complete a comprehensive induction and the Care Certificate, alongside mandatory training including safeguarding, medication, ligature awareness, trauma-informed care and moving & handling. Our teams are PMVA trained through RRN and GSA certified training, reflecting our commitment to safe, positive and least-restrictive practice.
In line with the principles of the Restraint Reduction Network, restrictive intervention is never considered routine practice. Our focus is on prevention, de-escalation, and reducing restrictive practices wherever possible, using the least restrictive approach when intervention is necessary to maintain safety.
Alongside our core training, we provide specialist learning shaped around the individual, which may include autism, learning disabilities, mental health, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and other specialist training.
All staff are fully DBS-checked and trained in safeguarding for both children and adults, with clear reporting pathways and regular refreshers.
Training continues beyond induction through regular supervision, competency checks and ongoing development, helping us maintain safe, consistent and high-quality support.
